There’s Only One Way to Avoid Obstacles

Do you spend more time worrying about the obstacles to your goals than actually taking action to achieve them? Well, this Week’s Biz Bite lets you glean some advice from one of my favorite beings. This special someone has a lot to teach us all about being persistent no matter what setbacks may occur along the way.

Watch this week’s Acting Business Bite to learn how to adjust your strategy when you get bumped off course.

What have you bumped into lately and how did you react to that? How could you do it differently next time? Let me know in the comments.

  1. To CLOVER!! She kept going steadily and slowly up those steps trusting she was headed in the right direction! You go girl! This is what I keep on striving for too, one more step up those stairs! Keep plugging away! Thanks Clover!

  6. I can’t tell you how much this has helped me to re-set and re-focus on what is important. Reminders are always helpful because even though we become more resilient with lessons and experiences, we are only human and do fall victim to negative thoughts and feelings from time to time! I love your analogies and wise words– they translate so well. Thank you, Dallas!

True, Sina. Don’t you think that the most impactful advice we receive is often the simplest?

  10. Thank you, Dallas. Wonderful video. And Clover…my new hero. And, love the 2nd dog being moral support as she made it up the steps. Yep, a tearjerker. :-)

  14. I was too busy crying to hear a WORD you said, Dallas….! (just kidding!) Seriously, as an actor I don’t compete w/pets and children. Just let them have center stage and hope I don’t make a fool of myself just sitting there looking at them all teary eyed…

At first, I had a “huh?” reaction to your video…seemed to me that, as mildly intelligent beings, we can avoid bumping into obstacles by thinking ahead.

Then I got the gist of what you’re saying: that, if the fear of hitting a painful obstacle was paralyzing me, then the only way to overcome that paralysis was to actually bump into them and get a feel for where they are so I don’t have to bump into them again. At this stage of the game, with little to lose, it’s a good time to make my mistakes and learn all I can from them.

Thank you, o Guru Dallas, for the life and acting lesson! I love your “Bites”! and my new way of getting into an emotional moment is to say “Clover” to myself and the waterworks WILL begin. OMG.

And I love your guidance from last year that enabled me to win my first ever acting award! Thank you!

  17. Everybody has said it so well. Very important reminder and beautifully embodied by the sweetest lady dog Clover (btw love the soundtrack to the stair climbing sequence :) . I love how you are able to find inspiration int he observation of what’s around you. I remember how you taught us to ‘build a nest’ after observing the bird on a nearby tree do just that. This is another one of those gems. Awesome Dallas!

  18. I LOVE Clover!!!
Thank you for that message Dallas. Also very timely for me. It’s tough though when you keep going and keep bumping into things. Not the same things over and over again, but new things constantly. How do you keep energy and spirits up when that happens?

  20. Incredible message Dallas! I have an Old Man Kitty named Chester who sweet Clover reminds me of. :) And how much did you LOVE Cowboy standing right there by her side as she made her way up and up and up?! Perfect inspiration. Don’t be afraid to bump into things. So simple, but so powerful.

  23. Dallas, thanks for sharing Clover’s drive. So sweet. It’s funny how we can sometimes think we’re “doing” but need to push more for action. I went back to being too safe and it’s time to bump into something (even if I do bruise easy). Thanks for the reminder and the wonderful story.
