  1. Dallas, You are absolutely right! I can’t believe how fun it was
to create my pilot for a TV sitcom! I’m leveraging it by submitting
it to festivals and making it available for casting directors to view
    on YouTube at http://youtu.be/Xbd10wJpWHk

  3. Dallas,

I agree. There was a story I wanted to tell but couldn’t find it anywhere. So I wrote it. My first public reading is in June. Currently I’m busy drafting a press release to send out to hopefully generate some buzz. Also been tweeting and facebooking about it to get support from my fans.

  4. Great video, as always, Dallas! I just (just!) decided to produce my own production of Howard Brenton’s “Anne Boleyn,” as a means to promote myself as a lead period actress in NYC. I’m a little scared, but very excited! It has definitely gotten my creative juices flowing again, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. I just have to remember in all the craziness of producing and starring in this production to leverage it to the fullest extent!!

  5. Hi Dallas! I am writing a short that showcases exactly what I do as an actor. I plan to produce it, but in the interim, I plan to perform it as my piece in workshops.

  6. Hi Dallas, I hope all is well! Since I started creating comedic shorts in January I’ve gotten more meat on my reel. In general it’s just help me feel more confident about my voice in the industry. I now am proud to contact casting directors and ask check out my reel and see if I might be a good fit for their project… which is also something you taught me :) I’m now working on building my audience through Twitter. Any suggestions?

  7. Always love your video tips. Thanks for you inspiring thoughts. While I’m on break from playing Ethel Mertz in I Love Lucy Live! I have decided to take on stand-up again after years away. It’s been easy promoting shows to industry and fun for me because it’s only a 10 minute stage requirement. I’m home and in bed by Letterman! Next thought taping the commercial sounds fun also making an SNL style character reel post it on You Tube! Possibilities are endless…

I’ve been doing my one woman show for many years successfully and it is “my little gem feeding  my creative & productive soul” to  much acclaim.  Each time I do a performance, I feel the love of a live audience. My talent & purpose to motivate, inspire, teach & entertain is reaffirmed.:-) sharing fun TV interview below.

  9. Hey dallas that was a brilliant video and it came at the right time. My buddies and I are in the midst of doing mini segments on youtube and facebook. To give everyone a hint, it’ll look like it’s not a staged segment but it’s really staged. I’ll be putting up the link soon for you guys to check out and feel free to let me know what you think about it.

Once again, really appreciate the insights dallas!

  11. Thanks Dallas you are so right and you are such an inspiration! I am full believer on creating your own work. My friend Darla and I did just that last year and it was a great diving board to help both of us get to the next level in our careers.
We are coming out soon with an E-Book to teach actors “How to Produce on a Nearly Zero Budget” if other actors are interested they can find all the info at http://www.darlacatproductions.com
    Thanks

  12. Hi Dallas,

A friend I created the following series. http://www.youtube.com/sweetmatestv .We have had really good response and have definitely fulfilled our souls with creating something that caters to our type and roles we would like to play. The problem is getting it out there. Although we are on youtube and we post links on twitter and facebook we still are not getting the viewership we would like. We have also sent out postcards, tweeted direct links etc. Do you have any other suggestions for getting content out there outside of the things we are already doing? Thanks for any suggestions and for all your wonderful videos. We are avid followers of the Dallas way!

    Cheers,

  13. Great video Dallas!

I have my second round of casting tomorrow for a play I am producing and directing for the 3rd Annual Hollywood Fringe Festival. Your word of wisdom and advice on self-generating opportunities really gave me the boost I needed to keep loving this project, First Love/Worst Love. We’re going to send our press release to peeps at KCRW, and offer 2 free tickets during an on-air shout out! I think this is our most creative marketing idea so far. Oh, and we’ve got a Kickstarter campaign under way.

Thank you Dallas! I look forward to your bites every week!

  14. Thanks for this push, Dallas! I have been wanting to put on my own cabaret for a while and keep putting it off (out of fear/lack of time/lack of focus). But if I think about how to use my soon-to-be cabaret as a stepping stone for my career, that already helps me focus on how to tackle the project!

  15. Thanks Dallas! This is so true, I started producing and editing my own web show 2 years ago, “I’m Just Sayin” at http://www.justsayinshow.com and it is the thing I am the most proud of and now I am getting work because of it. The industry does meet you half way when you follow your highest excitements and live up to your full creative potential… Great Video! Thanks for the inspiration :)

  19. Wow I am so inspired by your “bits of truth” because it’s just that simple. I discovered last year that I love acting, but I get down from not getting noticed or given the opportunity to do what I know I can. I would love to do my own project! Love. Thanks Dallas!

Or possibly you can give us one thing to look at, one thing that may connect what youre saying to 1 thing tangible? Only a suggestion. Anyway, in my language, there arene2€™t much great source like this.
